Glossary of Terms
- Depression and Mood Disorders: A condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason. A mood disorder can be any of several psychological disorders characterized by abnormalities of emotional state and including especially major depressive disorder, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder.
- Grief and Loss: A keen mental suffering or distress over affliction; sharp sorrow; painful regret over the state of being deprived of or of being without something that one has had, (i.e. the loss of old friends) or a death.
- Anger Management: A deep and strong feelings aroused by injury, injustice, wrong, etc. Anger is the general term for a sudden violent displeasure. Fury is rage that is out of control.
- Child Custody Conflict: The right of determining the residence, protection, care, and education of a minor child or children, esp. in a divorce or separation.
- Stress: A specific response by the body to a stimulus, as fear or pain, that disturbs or interferes with the normal physiological equilibrium of an organism. A physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension.
- ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder a condition, usually. in children, characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Origin: 1985 - 1990
- Anxiety: Distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune. A state of apprehension and psychic tension occurring in some forms of mental disorder.
- Panic Attacks: An intense attack of anxiety characterized by feelings of impending doom and trembling, sweating, pounding heart, and other physical symptoms.
- Bipolar Disorders: An affective disorder characterized by periods of mania alternating with periods of depression, usually interspersed with relatively long intervals of normal mood. Formerly, manic-depressive illness.
- Couples Counseling: Professional guidance in resolving personal conflicts and emotional problems.
Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Psychotherapist do?
Psychotherapists work with patients to modify their feelings and attitudes and help them develop healthier, more effective patterns of behavior. I do not prescribe medication, but I work in conjunction with a psychiatrist who will prescribe medications if necessary.
What about the costs?
Most people especially in these times are concerned about the fee. I understand this concern and do everything I can to try to keep costs from becoming a factor preventing therapy. If the situation is appropriate I work on a sliding scale. I accept some insurance, please call me so that we can discuss your options.
